Just a short boat trip away from Jakarta’s harbour lies a beautiful place that couldn’t possibly contrast more with the busy city life. Here, as part of the archipelago ‘The Thousand Islands’, you will find Desa Laguna, Jakarta’s perfect getaway. Flameworks embarked on a journey to this magical little island to create their promotional video. Sit back, relax, and enjoy what this wonderful place has to offer.
Streets filled with countless cars and motorbikes, and everywhere around you are tall skyscrapers that tower high into the clouds. Jakarta is a city that is never quiet and always busy. It can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to look far to find the perfect escape. Just north of the city lies the beautiful archipelago Pulau Seribu, which translates to The Thousand Islands. On one of these islands sits a resort so peaceful that you’ll completely forget the hectic city life. Welcome to Desa Laguna.
In 2023, we met Roderick, the founder of the resort, who offered Flameworks the opportunity to create their promotional video. Packed with camera gear, laptops, and a drone, the journey began. After a long flight, our first shooting day started at height, among the skyscrapers, capturing the busy city from above for the video’s opening sequence. Then it was time to head to Jakarta’s harbour to catch the boat to Desa Laguna.
Upon arrival, the contrast with Jakarta was immediate. The island welcomed us with peaceful surroundings, warm hospitality, and incredible food. We began filming right away. Day one focused on capturing the essence of Desa Laguna: atmospheric shots of the resort and its accommodations, scenes with Roderick sharing the story behind the island, and our first drone flights during the late-afternoon golden hour.
The second day on the island we shifted our attention to documenting the guest experience. We filmed the arrival of a new group of visitors and followed them through a full tour of the island. From the small beaches and beautiful huts to the dining spaces and the mangrove. Additional drone footage helped us capture the island’s beauty from above, completing all shots needed for the final edit.
Around sunrise on the third morning, we packed our gear and made our way back to Jakarta to begin post-production. We sorted through all footage, selecting the best scenes, and shaped the story of the video. With post-production complete, the magic of Desa Laguna truly came to life, and Roderick was very pleased with the final result.
This was a wonderful project to work on. The combination of the beautiful setting, the welcoming team, and the freedom to be creative made the entire production truly memorable. We are proud to have captured the spirit of this hidden gem and look forward to many more collaborations like this.
